Yoga

“Yoga does not transform the way we see things; it transforms the person who sees.”

- BKS Iyengar

Yoga gives us a new lens in which we view the world.

My Yoga Story...

My yoga journey began in 2010 after I had reached a personal low point and completely lost connection with myself. I was searching and my escape was in the drugs and nightlife of Amsterdam. In order to get back in touch with myself, I gradually started taking weekly yoga lessons. On the advice of my mother, who had also experienced the positive effects of yoga.
These lessons helped me to connect with my body and soul. As a result, I eventually regained my strength and learned how to indicate my boundaries and listen to myself better. I felt focused and was very driven, a feeling that I had never felt so strongly in my life before. More and more, the puzzle pieces came together. That is when I started to feel the love for yoga and myself.
The fantastic life tools of yoga made the light in me shine again and I wanted to share this with more people. From 2011 onwards, I started to delve deeper into the study and philosophy of yoga by following courses and thus enriching my knowledge. Finally something that held my interest and where I could find myself. I followed my first Hatha yoga training with (now my yoga mother) Flim. I felt seen and understood, for the first time in my life I felt that I was allowed to be there, exactly as I am. With Flim I then also did the next Hatha 2/Vinyasa training.
And because I had dreamed of working with children since I was a child, I completed the children's yoga training with Patty Jongemaets of Dolfijn Yoga in 2013. Patty also launched a yoga training "Virtues Yoga" into the world. With virtues yoga you learn to gain more depth to yourself through communication through virtues. This training prepared me to eventually take the step to leave the office jobs behind me and follow my heart to find a job in health and exercise. Teaching yoga was what I wanted to do most.

After I had completed the training with Patty, I started teaching children's yoga at schools in Amsterdam South. Subsequently, I taught Hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga, Hot Yoga and Pregnancy yoga at various yoga studios in Amsterdam. Inbetween, I continued to develop myself with studies on breathwork, pregnancy and various workshops. During that time, I also flew to Bali several times to take lessons from well-known yogis. This is where a dream of my own yoga studio began to live. In 2017, I was able to manifest and make this dream come true. This is how Yoga Studio de Pijp was born and the doors of my intimate, beautiful, open light studio in de Pijp opened in May 2017. That same month in August, my greatest dream of becoming a mother also came true. I think I manifested it a bit too hard :). It was hard work and perseverance with a growing baby inside me. But the studio quickly grew so fast that there was not always room for everyone. With a minimum of four lessons per day and eventually nine other teachers, we even received an "award" three times for the best studio in Amsterdam. It was a great success! How incredibly cool it was to get the chance to do this. During the pandemic, I eventually decided to close the studio after four years. These years have given me so many learning moments, life lessons and gratitude.

During that time, I also started the training to become a Yoga Therapist with my next inspiration and mentor, Montserrat from The Yoga Therapist Institute. During this training, I received so much new, valuable learning material about the human body that made my heart beat so fast. The insights I gained have also completely changed my way of teaching. As a person, I have also grown so much because of this. And I wish this way of yoga for every person. In fact, it is also suitable and can be adapted to each person. Due to the medical and individual approach and effect of yoga therapy, you do not only work with people who want to use yoga to become fit or healthy. But especially with people who are chronically ill, chronically ill, have injuries, are recovering from an illness, traumas, old age complaints and other physical imbalances in the body. It is a completely different way of working with people than just yoga postures like in a group. You support a person with therapeutic tools and yoga exercises, adapted to the individual body and mind. The great thing about these sessions is that you get much more in-depth with a person. This year I will finish the written side of the Yoga therapy training. It is so beautiful how you get to know and develop yourself again and again with yoga and especially knowledge of the human body. These tools help me to live a balanced and stable life.

This makes me a happy person!
My mission is to guide as many people as possible in discovering their inner light.

Yin /Slow Yoga

Yin or Slow yoga is a calm and meditative yoga style that focuses on holding poses for a long time. It promotes flexibility and helps to relax the body and mind. By holding the pose for a few minutes, deeper tissues in the body can be reached, which contributes to better blood circulation and energy flow.
